QWhat is the language of instruction for this program?

Our program courses are taught in Japanese.

QAre seminars delivered in real-time?

Some seminars expect students to attend at a set time. If you cannot attend real-time sessions, you will need to watch recorded lectures and/or submit assignments. Other seminars require students to complete and submit assignments, final projects or final reports instead.

QHow are the graduation projects conducted online?

A

In “Information Science and Engineering Seminars 1 and 2, ” graduation research project courses, students will be guided by assigned professors. Instruction formats may vary including live sessions and pre-recorded (VOD) lectures. Active communication is expected, especially for guidance and mid-term project progress reports. Final projects and/or reports must be submitted for the course evaluation.

QAm I supposed to attend classes at scheduled time?

Most lectures are pre-recorded and delivered on demand online. Students watch them on their own schedule. Some seminars are delivered in real-time and students are expected to log in to OUS-LMS at a set time to participate.

QDoes the program lead to a teaching qualification?

A

No. This online degree program does not grant a teaching qualification.

QWhat is the maximum number of credits a student is allowed to earn?

A

Degree-seeking students may earn up to 22 credits per semester and 44 credits per academic year. Non-degree students may earn up to 31 credits a year.

QHow many credits are required for graduation?

A

A minimum of 124 credits is required for graduation. This program requires a minimum of 34 credits from the general education courses and 80 credits from the specialized courses.

QWhat degree will be granted upon completion of the course?

A

Students who successfully complete the program will receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Science and Engineering.

QHow is the online course structured and what is the outcome after completion?

A

Each course typically has 15 sections. One section lasts 90 minutes and contains six 10-minute video lectures and follow-up quizzes/reports. Quizzes help students to reinforce their understanding. After completing the 15 sections and passing final exams, students earn 2 credits.

QHow can I ask professors questions?

QIs there any distinction between the online and on-campus degrees at the Faculty of Information Science and Engineering?

A

No. There is no difference between the online and on-campus degrees from the Faculty of Information Science and Engineering.

QDo online and on-campus students in the Faculty of Information Science and Engineering learn the same educational content?

A

They are nearly the same except practical, hands-on courses such as “AI Robotics” and “Mechatronics” which are offered only in the on-campus program. The online program curriculum exclude these courses due to its delivery format limitations.

QI am not good at math. Would that be a problem?

A

Not necessarily. We offer preparatory courses which covers basic math and English. The curriculum also supports students in developing a strong foundation through fundamental courses in math and information science.

QAm I expected to attend classes in person?

No. All courses are delivered online with no on-campus requirements. Some seminar courses required students to attend real-time sessions, but most lectures are pre-recorded and delivered on demand. Students can watch them on their own schedule. Final exams are also conducted online.

QPlease tell me in detail how online classes are delivered.

Students take courses through the OUS-LMS after logging in to the system and choosing the classes they are interested in. They study pre-recorded lectures and use print/digital textbooks, including PDF files, and complete assignments including quizzes to reinforce their understanding. For programming courses, students write programs, observe the outcome and submit assignment reports to enhance their learning. Students watch videos, take quizzes and submit reports through the LMS which is accessible from anywhere with an internet connection.
