The Basics in Information Science and Engineering
Basic Specialized Courses
-
Frontiers of Information Science

- This course explores the latest societal and research trends relevant to specialized courses in Information Science and Engineering. It will introduce core subjects in Information Science and Engineering, essential for new students. They are: 1.supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement learning paradigms in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning; 2. Image classification, object detection, image segmentation and image generation in deep learning; 3. Research and applications of natural language processing (NLP) and generative AI; 4. Impact of Cryptography and its latest research; 5. Core technology required for agent simulation and game development; 6. Three-dimensional numerical computation and experimental evaluation of thermo physical phenomena with various visualization methods; 7. Techniques for mathematically formulating and solving problems, including simple phenomena, on computers.
-
Introduction to Information Systems

- Computers are built into a wide range of devices, from smartphones and home appliances. Information systems are the backbone of modern society, designed to collect, store, process, distribute and use information. As the systems are applied deeply in our lives, understanding information systems is critical for learners. This course will first introduce data representation skills and the operating principles of hardware and software, then explore database management, networking and security.
-
Introduction to Game Systems

- This course will introduce digital games in various aspects including business, culture, technology and development. Students will learn the big picture and societal role of digital games in modern society. The course covers the history and potential of game systems, considering the Japanese market trend in the industry landscapes, and will equip students with foundational knowledge of gaming. They will learn game methodologies applicable to many other fields before the game domain.
-
Introduction to Internet Security Algorithms

- Students in this course will learn server-client model, internet architecture based on and governed by communication protocols and fundamentals of information security and its technologies. They will explore algorithms using scripting language on the web, the history and architecture of the internet, web application development, HTML structure, copyrights, cybercrime overview, flowcharting, sorting and genetic algorithms.
